Apple on Wednesday joined a growing list of companies that are encouraging their employees to keep working remotely by offering them $1,000 as coronavirus cases again surge.

The tech giant announced it will delay returning its workers back to the office, offering to provide all Apple corporate and retail employees $1,000 to buy equipment to refurbish their home offices.

Apple isn’t the first to pay workers extra to work from home. Several companies, including Google and Facebook, offered their employees $1,000 bonuses to help with work-from-home expenses early in the pandemic, as reported by CNN Business on Thursday.

The monetary incentive was shared with Apple employees in an email from CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday and reported by several news outlets.

Other companies that have delayed back-to-offfice plans amid reports of increasing COVID-19 cases and the discovery of the Omicron variant include Lyft, which won’t return to the office until 2023, Google, Uber and Amazon.

Earlier this week, Apple reinstated a mask mandate at all of its U.S. stores and is reportedly closing some of them due to surging COVID cases.
