Monkeys never shy away from daring exploits—a primate in India confirmed the fact and how!

A monkey in the Rae Bareilly district of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has been stealing cans of beer and liquor bottles from shops, according to locals. A video shared on Twitter shows the animal defiantly gulping down the boozy liquid from a can of beer that was stolen from one of the liquor shops, NDTV reported.

Amused onlookers can be heard in the background, even cheering the monkey on to finish the contents of the can as it pauses to take a breath, while one of them flashed a spotlight on it. Take a look below:

One might even say the monkey grew into quite an addict after days of the thefts, as it downs the can in a matter of seconds, pries into its bottom to see if any more was left, and doesn't stop until it chugs up the last drop.

A local shopkeeper at Achalganj in the district told the outlet that it's hard to catch the notorious alcohol thief as it resorts to biting when being chased. Shopkeepers in the area said that they alerted the authorities but nothing was done to help them.

The owner of the shop where the now-viral video was recorded told LatestLy that the monkey, on many occasions, even tried to snatch beer bottles from customers at the shop.

Meanwhile, District Excise Officer Rajendra Pratap Singh told NDTV that efforts were being made by the local forest officials to catch the monkey and release it elsewhere, assuring that people will soon be rid of the menacing simian.

While monkeys are known to enjoy alcohol, unlike humans, they miserably fail at handling the after-effects of it. In a bizarre incident from June 2020, a monkey that was given alcohol regularly by its owner grew aggressive after the man died and the supply of liquor stopped. The animal went on a rampage and bit over 250 people. It was eventually caught and given a life term in captivity as a result of its actions.
