Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Erik ten Hag and Co. are seeing the 35-year-old as an ideal backup gloves option for David de Gea, but Everton are looking to retain the Bosnian goalkeeper's services, reported The Telegraph.

Manchester United are aware that Everton boss Frank Lampard would need to find a replacement before sanctioning Begovic's departure. Begovic joined Everton just last season and made seven appearances for the Toffees, including three in the Premier League.

The Red Devils reportedly are not looking to pay a high fee for Begovic as the Bosnian goalkeeper has just one year left on his current contract.

The goalkeeper made his senior debut in the 2004-05 season for English club Portsmouth, who competed in the Premier League back then. The club now features in third-tier League One. Begovic also played for Chelsea for two seasons between 2015 and 2017.

Following Manchester United's 2-1 loss to Brighton and 4-0 defeat to Brentford, the situation at Old Trafford is tricky, including in the goalkeeping department. The Red Devils started off the 2022-23 Premier League campaign with defeats in their first two games.

De Gea was at fault for two of Brentford's goals last weekend. While Manchester United allowed Dean Henderson to leave on loan to Nottingham Forest this summer, Ten Hag does not want to sign a new No. 1 but is looking only for a backup option in near future.

It is understood that Ten Hag wants to bolster his side before the summer window ends on Sept. 1. While the side has failed to convince Frenkie de Jong to move to Manchester, it is aiming to land Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid.

Since Manchester United failed to finish in the top four of the 2021-22 Premier League, they did not secure Champions League slot for this term. The Red Devils will compete in the second-tier European competition, The Europa League. As a result, their key forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but he has not managed to secure a deal from any other top club.

Ronaldo has just a year left on his contract with Manchester United and has been linked with various European clubs recently, including Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
