K-Pop Act GOT7’s Self-Titled Album Tops iTunes Albums Charts In 83 Countries

Seven-piece K-pop group GOT7’s latest self-titled EP hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Albums charts in 83 countries, including Thailand, India, Brazil, Mexico, France, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Greece, Colombia, Indonesia, Turkey, and Vietnam.

The self-titled album released Monday marks the group’s first musical project since leaving JYP Entertainment in January 2021. The lead single of the six-track album, “NANANA,” also reached No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts in 57 countries including Argentina, Colombia, Egypt, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Nepal.

Meanwhile, the other tracks “Don’t Leave Me Alone,” “Drive Me to The Moon,” “TRUTH,” “Don’t Care About me,” and “TWO” were also fan favorites in Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The “If You Do” singers recently held their successful sold-out fan meetings Saturday and Sunday at SK Handball Olympic Gymnasium. Incidentally, this was also where the group’s first concert was held in April 2016.

Fans, collectively known as Ahgase, earlier took to Twitter and highlighted the most exciting moments in the two-day musical event.

“Just right … how cute,” a fan wrote alongside a clip of GOT7 members Bambam, Jay B, Mark Tuan, Jackson Wang, Yugyeom, Jinyoung and Youngjae synchronizing their moves during the fan event.

A fan tweeted an English translation of Jinyoung’s funny anecdote about Jay B, his closest friend in the group, during their time as pop duo JJ Project before GOT7 debuted in 2014. “Yesterday we told stories about Jaebeom hyung during JJP era and my dad scolded me 'What nonsense was that?' I told him we were just joking but my dad said 'But still! You punk' I’m really sorry dad."

Another fan tweeted a clip of GOT7 members splashing water on each other during the musical encore.

Last year, group leader Jay B spoke about the group’s struggles after leaving the music studio. The 25-year-old singer said he had a hard time “organizing all sorts of documents” when they were preparing to leave the studio for good.

He also spoke about staying together as a group despite pursuing solo activities after their departure from JYP Entertainment.

“It was just about leaving the company,” JAY B said on the “Daebak Show with Eric Nam.” “We didn’t announce the disbandment of the group, we didn’t know what to do going forward… But the future of the team is a bit like, seven of us have to work together.”
