Jay-Z has landed the new record for most Grammy nominations in history. With 83 nominations in total, the rapper has surpassed Quincy Jones, who currently has 80 nominations under her belt.

The 51-year-old rapper and billionaire was previously tied with Jones with 80 nods. However, he bested her record Tuesday after receiving three nominations at the 2022 Grammy Awards. He received one nod for Album of the Year for Kanye West’s “Donda” and two nods in the Best Rap Song category for DMX’s “Bath Salts” and West’s “Jail.”

Former Beatles member Paul McCartney, who nabbed two new nominations at the 2022 Grammys, comes up just behind with 81 nominations in total.

Jay-Z took home his first Grammy in 1998. In 2017, he received eight nominations for his album 4:44 more than any other year, but he did not win in any of the categories he was nominated for. Throughout his career, the artist has won 23 Grammy Awards, including Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Everything is Love” in 2018 and four Best Rap Song awards, including for “Savage” and “Empire State of Mind.”

One of the most paid celebrities today, Jay-Z has an estimated net worth of over $1.3 billion as of this year. The Brooklyn-born star has dominated the rap categories at the Grammys for most of his career and has also achieved nominations for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best R&B Performance, and Best Pop Duo.

While the artist has criticized the music awards in some of his songs, he and his wife Beyonce annually host a pre-ceremony breakfast during the awards season.

Meanwhile, Beyonce currently holds the record for the most Grammy wins in history, which she achieved during last year’s ceremony. In 2021, the female artist took home her 28th Grammy award, becoming the most nominated woman and most awarded singer in the history of the awards show.

The success of Jay-Z and Beyonce at the Grammys has extended to their children, with their oldest daughter Blue Ivy Carter winning her first Grammy at the 2021 Grammys at 9 years old, making her one of the youngest to ever get the award.
