Jake Paul, Anderson Silva Agree To Interesting Bet For Upcoming Boxing Event

Jake Paul is set to take on former UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva in a boxing match on Saturday, October 29, and the YouTube sensation has an interesting proposition for the retired mixed martial arts (MMA) star.

During their pre-fight press conference, Paul initially proposed that if Silva wins, he will step in the ring with him in a kickboxing fight.

Then, Paul upped the ante on if he will be able to beat the combat sports icon.

"But if I win, me and you come together to create a united fighters' association to help UFC fighters get better pay and better healthcare. You become the interim president and we unite to help these fighters once and for all," Paul declared to which Silva immediately agreed to.

While the proposition was an interesting one to help draw attention to their fight this weekend, many fans lamented this idea going public since it is a lose-lose situation for Silva on many fronts.

If Silva defeats Paul on Saturday, they extend their affairs to a kickboxing match which has a subtext of the Brazilian not caring for current mixed martial artists since the union for a united fighters' association is not going to happen anymore.

Silva beating the younger Paul brother would please a lot of people since fans view him as someone who has a grating personality that they would love to see him drop his unbeaten 5-0 record.

However, the likelihood of Silva possibly taking a dive increased because of the stipulations they placed on the outcome of the fight and fans were jokingly, some legitimately, calling on others to bet the farm on Paul winning if they were so sure that Silva would lose.

There is also a fair share of skeptics who believe that this is simply another marketing tactic on the fighters' end to draw more attention to the fight, while others also claim that Paul is supposedly desperate to get approval from the more established fighters.

While all sentiments can be understood as genuine, that lingering feeling of Silva taking a dive for the betterment of the sport is gnawing away at most fans' desires to watch the bout in the first place since there is that doubt of sincerity in Paul's gestures.

Paul has been chasing both the UFC and its president Dana White over fighter pay and healthcare to the point that he and Stephen A. Smith even debated on the issue during an episode of the social media personality's YouTube show.

With so many storylines heading into the fight, the combat sports community will surely be following the match with varying levels of interest as the outcome could dictate the future of the sport.
