Cleveland Browns' Unhappy Quarterback Won’t Be Around During Voluntary Practices

The Cleveland Browns have yet to address the Baker Mayfield issue with the 27-year-old play-caller’s future still murky.

From the looks of it, such will stay that way.

With voluntary workouts set to start on Tuesday, May 24, the former Heisman Trophy winner is reportedly not going to attend the sessions, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported.

Skipping the organized team activities (OTA) was hardly surprising, especially after the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans.

Aside from the three-time Pro Bowler, Cleveland also took in veterans Jacoby Brissett and Josuha Dobbs to be Watson's supporting cast.

Moving Mayfield will not be easy for the Browns as he is due $18.858 million for the coming season after the Browns picked up his fifth-year option last spring.

At least two teams have been singled out as possible destinations for the Texas native–the Carolina Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks.

But despite their need for a quarterback, nothing has gone down. The only thing known is that both NFL teams have not closed the door on possibly taking in Mayfield.

Mayfield did not have a good last NFL season on account of a shoulder injury.

He played in only 14 games and completed just over 60% of his passes with 3,010 yards with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

In addition, Mayfield went 6-8 in his 14 starts as the Browns missed the playoffs with an 8-9 record.

The Browns are reportedly holding on to Mayfield as there is a possibility that Watson could not play next season.

In a previous report, Jadeveon Clowney re-signed with the Browns–a move that was allegedly influenced by Watson's arrival.

The defensive end will be earning $11 million for the coming season and allegedly put in a good word for the Browns to trade for Watson.

Clowney and Watson once played together when both men suited up for the Houston Texans.
