KEY POINTS

  • Arsenal is making sure that they have enough firepower to keep their title hopes afloat
  • Facundo Torres' versatility is something that will properly fit well into Mikel Arteta's system
  • Torres' arrival will give Bukayo Saka some friendly competition

Arsenal has been performing great this season, maintaining the top spot in the English Premier League.

Moreover, they are looking to secure a first-place finish in Group A of the Europa League.

To ensure that they end up with the No. 1 seat in the aforementioned tourney, it is a must that Arsenal has enough firepower.

The Gunners find themselves in a similar situation last season as they finished in the Top Four and were a win away from achieving that feat.

Unfortunately, injuries to key personnel as well as the lack of firepower were too much to overcome for Mikel Arteta and company.

Now, they are making sure that these bases are covered heading into the January transfer window.

One player on the radar of the Gunners is Facundo Torres of Orlando City.

The 22-year-old has so far scored nine goals while also setting up a further eight in 33 league appearances so far this season.

Reports have now emerged that the Gunners will be holding talks with representatives of Orlando City and Torres regarding a potential move in January per the Evening Standard's report.

"We were looking for players that could play in three positions in the frontline and in the attacking midfielder positions," Arteta was quoted as saying in the summer when he spoke about the signing of Fabio Vieira.

With Arteta emphasizing versatility, Torres undoubtedly makes the grade.

Furthermore, the 22-year-old does not appear to mind playing any position asked of him since this was something he got used to doing when he played in Uruguay.

"I feel comfortable playing any position in the attack, that's how I played in Uruguay," Torres said in a report from The Athletic last March.

"I'd start as a left-sided winger, but I'd move all over the field. I'd be on the right, in the middle and back to the left. I'm a player who feels comfortable in a free role versus having a fixed position. More than anything, I'm an attacking winger, but I can also play in the middle, behind the striker, as a No. 10. I just really like playing freely."

Should they be successful, Torres would give Arteta and the Gunners a formidable backup winger.

A potential coming could likewise give Bukayo Saka some competition as the Gunners hope to keep their title hopes alive for the remainder of the season.
