17-Year-Old Girl Gives Birth At Home By Watching Video, Throws Baby From Building's Second Floor

A 17-year-old girl, who gave birth to a child at her home in India after watching a birthing video on YouTube, reportedly threw the newborn from the second floor of her building.

The shocking incident took place in the western state of Maharashtra. According to local media reports, the incident was reported to the State Women's Commission, which launched an investigation.

The police filed a case against the teenager under the Prevention of Child Abuse Act.

When the teenager, who has not been identified, and her mother visited a private hospital, the doctors at the facility suspected that the girl was pregnant. However, they ignored the signs of pregnancy.

The State Commission for Women Chairperson, Rupali Chakankar, told the police serious action needs to be taken against the doctor the girl and her mother had gone to for a checkup, Punekar News reported.

According to Chakankar, the newborn baby was admitted to a hospital after being thrown from the building. The child was found by some people living in the building premises, TV9 Marathi reported [Google Translate showed].

The minor girl, who gave birth to the child, was being treated in a private hospital.

Last month, a man in India allegedly strangled his 4-month-old son to death. The accused – identified as 30-year-old Sanjay Verma – took the step after his wife refused to return home with him from her parents' house. The accused was heavily drunk when he committed the crime, police said. The couple, who got married in 2015, had frequent arguments which led to their separation. When Verma tried to convince his wife, she refused. This angered him and he snatched the baby from the mother's lap. He then strangled the baby to death. He then fled the scene. The child was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

In June, a man in the eastern state of West Bengal allegedly strangled his newborn girl to death for having a dark complexion. The accused had a girl child for the third consecutive time, which angered him. On the day of the tragedy, when the mother went to the washroom, her husband strangled the newborn to death.
